What is ragga jungle?

Ragga jungle is jungle with the sound system at the front: chopped Amen breaks and deep sub-bass under Jamaican ragga and dancehall vocals. It’s where UK breakbeat culture and reggae meet head on.

It took shape in the UK in the early 1990s, with Rebel MC, later Congo Natty, among the people who pushed it, and it peaked in 1994 and 1995. Two tracks broke it wide open: “Incredible” by M-Beat featuring General Levy, and “Original Nuttah” by UK Apachi and Shy FX. Both hit the UK charts.

Ragga jungle is a direct branch of jungle, and one of the roots of everything that followed.
